NFPA 70

National Electrical Code®

Status: Active

Enforced in all 50 states, NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC) is the benchmark for safe electrical design, installation, and inspection to protect people and property from electrical hazards.

Please note: The NEC® Correlating Committee and Code-Making Panels 1–18 are working on a comprehensive reorganization and restructuring of NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code® (NEC®). This effort first began in the 2023 edition of the NEC, with the inclusion of new articles covering electrical installations over 1000 volts ac, 1500 volts dc, and with the relocation of content covering limited-energy systems in Chapter 7. More reorganization changes are proposed for the 2026 edition with the goal of completing the reorganization in the 2029 edition. More information on this ongoing initiative can be found at the link above. For more information on proposed changes to the 2026 edition of the NEC, please click the “Next Edition” tab below.
